Five Nepal Police DIGs promoted to AIG, one among them will become IGP

Kathmandu, 20 March: The cabinet meeting held this morning has decided to promote five Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) to the Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs). 

Following the recommendation of the Home Ministry, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, Tekprasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, Shyamlal Giri and Kiran Bajracharya have been promoted to the post of AIGs. 

One among those five promoted AIGs will lead the Nepal Police succeeding present IGP Dhiraj Pratap Singh. 

The government is also trying to remove the retirement criteria of 30 years. If implemented the new provision, IGP Singh’s tenure can be extended, otherwise, he will get compulsory retirement from 25 March. Moreover, AIGs Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, Uttamraj Subedi and Diwes Lohani are also going to get compulsory retirement along with IGP Singh.
