Writ filed challenging President’s decision

Kathmanadu, 23 February: Advocate Lokendra Oli has filed a petition at the Supreme Court (SC) challenging President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s recent decision to waive fines imposed on local election candidates for not submitting their expense details on time. According to the SC, preliminary hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow.

Earlier, the Election Commission had decided that 123,650 candidates participating in the May 13 local elections  pay fines to the tune of  24.639 billion but on the recommendation of the Cabinet  President Bhandari waived the fine last week inviting controversy.
