Kathmandu, 19 February: Former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev has stated, “We can no longer remain silent about the continuous erosion of Nepal”.
In a message to the nation on the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day, Falgun 7 today, the former King has recalled that in these last few years, the country’s long-term peace, stability and international respect and sovereignty have begun to crumble.
To save the nation the political parties indispensable for democracy and the institution of monarchy committed to safeguarding patriotism, sovereignty and independence of the nation must develop an alliance without any delay, the former King has urged.
“This year, while celebrating this day, let’s take a new initiative and make Nepal’s democracy more advanced and meaningful”, he has asked the Nepali people.
“Let’s establish the goal of promoting Nepali identity including patriotism, good governance, economic progress, universal spirit and eternal religion as a core belief”, the former King has said.
“In the context of Democracy Day, we want to remember all those who sacrificed and contributed to democracy, including our respected grandfather, the father of the nation, His Majesty King Tribhuvan” the King has stated.
“In the past twenty years, tens of millions of youths have migrated abroad and created a wide diaspora, as both society and the economy are largely dependent on remittance revenue, a national debate about the positive and negative effects has become necessary for a brighter future”, he has stated.
In the absence of the youth power that can strengthen the country, transform the society with its own national identity, and pressure the political leadership to leave a better Nepal politically and socially, the leaders of the political parties might be feeling highly comfortable, the King said and explained that the self-respecting Nepalis who are trying hard to stand on their own feet are now disappointed. As there are no bright prospects in the country, they are forced to choose an unpleasant path. It is a matter of concern that since the situation of the country does not inspire hope, the idea that there is no environment for all the poor Nepali brothers and sisters in the mountains, hills and Tarai Madhesh to eat in their own country is a matter of concern. Hardworking youth are trying to move forward to do business in the country and encourage local production.
“Even though the reins of the state power have been in the hands of those repeatedly or changed, our existing state system does not seem to be able to make any profound contribution to the happiness, peace and prosperity of the nation. Many leaders of political parties are caught in the trap of party, family and personal greed rather than the country and the people”, the King has analysed the worst state in the country.
Finally, the King has stated, “The lack of government responsibility and seriousness has started to be seen not only in matters within the country but also in foreign relations. The practice of self-centred and immature foreign policy with a weak mentality has become a matter of serious concern, as Nepal’s international recognition is being affected”.
