Maha Shivaratri festival today

Kathmandu, 18 February, Maha Shivaratri festival, considered the birthday of Lord Shiva is being observed today by worshipping Lord Shiva by all the Hindu community nationwide.

A grand religious festival takes place at the Pashupatinath Temple on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. A large number of devotees from different parts of the country as well as from India have already arrived for the special pooja of Lord Shiva at the Pashupatinath Temple.

The 145th Jagadguru Shankaracharya of the Govardhan Peetham of Puri, Nischalananda Saraswati, arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday evening at the special invitation of Pashupati Areas Development Trust (PADT). PADT has expected a visit of above 3 million devotees to the Temple today.    

The main gate of the Temple is decorated with flowers and lights.

The Pashupatinath Temple premises have been decorated with colourful flowers.

Considering the crowd, the Traffic Police have managed special traffic arrangements for today. Vehicles passing via Gausala crossroads have been diverted to other directions as roads nearby the Pashupatinath Temple have declared no vehicle zone for today.
