Kathmandu, 18 February: With growing deep division between Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal and CPN-UML chair Khadga Oli relating to selection of consensus presidential candidate, the current coalition is on the brink of collapse.
A two-hour-long meeting between Dahal and Oli on Friday failed to yield any results as both remained adamant to their stance. Oli reminded Dahal to respect the December 25 understanding while Dahal argued that situation has changed with the support from Nepali Congress to his government. Oli has warned of withdrawing support if he denied CPN-UML presidential candidate. Despite Oli’s warnings, Dahal has publicly stated that he is for consensus candidate.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress is encouraged by the changing political scenario and it is reported that Dahal has promised Deuba to be the next president.
