Kathmandu, 11 February: It is an example of a highly nonsense act for stopping vehicles and commoners’ movement during the VIPs’ travel time.
The Kathmandu streets saw a traffic jam for more than three hours when the security personnel stooped the vehicle and commoners’ movement for an hour on Friday afternoon when President Bidya Devi Bhandari travelled to the Parliament House from Sittal Niwas. Maybe, the loktantrik leaders have felt pride while giving such a pose, however, all sectors have criticised such an act of government security.
In today’s world, stopping the movement of vehicles and commoners is a nonsense idea. Even in European countries, the kings and prime ministers are found travelling in public vehicles. In some countries, there will be visits of the heads of governments and nations are taking place on a daily basis. But roads are not blocked like in Kathmandu. There are different escorting mechanisms for conducting such visits without disturbing regular traffic. The very model can be applied in Nepal during the visits of VIPs.
Gagan Thapa, a Nepali Congress MP, has opposed the present government escorting mechanism. He is an MP. Instead of expressing his remarks on social networks, he could speak in parliament and put pressure on the government for changing the VIP escorting security protocol. We hope, he would take initiative on it so that hundreds of thousands of people in the capital city should not suffer in days to come.
