Kathmandu, 31 January: The United States, has bluntly dictated Nepal to protest her sovereignty while engaging with neighbours. US Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, addressing a press conference on Monday, undiplomatically said that the US wants Nepal to take sovereign decision on the issues of economic partnership its national interests. She was referring to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) , Nepal as being a party to it. Nepal has remained sovereign and independent since the time immemorial and US concern at this juncture is ridiculous. She dictated to do what is good for democracy and prosperity of Nepal and cautioned to choose friends and neighbours for economic cooperation. She expressed dissatisfaction to Nepal’s robust relations with China, and suggested to safeguard sovereignty. Nationalist Nepalis have objected to her brazen disregard for Nepal and her undiplomatic suggestion as what we should do and what we should not.
