Kathmandu, 31 January: With concerns from stakeholders, the government has decided to postpone the proposal to classify information. Fresh discussions would be initiated after halting the proposal, and the issues would be forwarded in line with the Constitution of Nepal and Right to Information Act.
The Chief Secretary-led Information Classification Committee had decided to classify government information in 87 points, which drew flak from the stakeholders. The issue was discussed on Monday among the stakeholders at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. During the discussions, Chief Secretary and Committee Coordinator Shanker Das Bairagi defended his move stating that the move to classify the information was not aimed at curtailing right to information but to manage the information.
