Kathmandu, 27 January: Within a month of the formation of the present coalition government, the major alliance partners have become suspicious of each other. UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli has become suspicious of Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal after the latter wished to support the Nepali Congress candidate for the post of a president violating the previous agreement between Oli and Dahal for giving the presidential post to the UML.
PM Dahal is suspicious that if key posts such as speaker and president are given to the UML, he may become helpless in the government.
In fact, India wants a comfortable president in Nepal. Indians had never expected that Dahal and Oli would join hands and constitute another alliance by breaking the then-ruling alliance. When overnight politics took another course, India is trying to correct the course by at least securing a president comfortable for India.
Although Oli too is Delhi’s man, sometimes, he doesn’t obey Delhi’s order, therefore, India is seeking a “yes man”.
From the Nepali Congress, Ramchandra Poudel is the aspirant for becoming the president. Deuba had also assured Poudel of the presidential post for him. However, of late, Deuba is naming Krishna Shitaula, Delhi’s confidant, as the presidential candidate.
PM Dahal, not because he doesn’t trust Oli, but under Delhi’s instruction, is willing to support the NC candidate for the post of president. Oli seems helpless in this strategy.
