We will not allow anyone to have a military base in our country: KP Oli  

Kathmandu, 20 January: Chairman of CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has said that external and international relations will be maintained keeping in mind the national interest. Addressing the two-day orientation program on ‘Nepal’s Foreign Policy and International Relations’ organized by the Party’s Foreign Affairs Department on Friday, Oli said that any country adopts foreign policy keeping in mind its own position and development and security.

He said that Nepal is also committed to foreign policy based on the principles of Panchsheel and reminded that some countries have disappeared due to lapses in their foreign policy. 

“A country should move forward by considering its geopolitical location, and state of development, and keep security in mind. A geopolitical situation that we need to pay attention to, Oli, who is also a former prime minister, said. 

“We should adopt policies keeping these conditions in mind, including the geographical situation, the level of development, the strength of our economy.”

He also said that UML is in favor of tension-free neighbourhood relations. “We are in favor of the national interest, resolving border problems, harnessing natural resources”, said Oli. 

Chairman Oli said that regardless of whether his party will be in the government or not, the party will continue to maintain balanced and trustworthy relations with the two neighbors..

“We want to be a good neighbor to our neighbors and we don’t hate them”, he said and added that he will not allow Nepali soil to be used by anyone.

“We will not allow anyone to have a military base in our country. We will not allow any kind of military activities or such bases in our country”, said Oli. 

He said that his party will not compromise on the country’s sovereign power and will proceed in mutual interest.
