Kathmandu, 15 January: Today is the first day of the Nepali month Magh. The sun is going to change its course moving towards the northern polar from the southern polar, thus far, different communities in Nepal are observing the Day as their special day.
The Tharu community observes the day as their new year. The Magar community also observes the day as their special festival.
Other communities including Brahman, Chhetri, Newar, Rai, Limbu, Magar, and Gurung celebrate this festival according to their tradition.
The Newar community in the country observe this festival by eating different varieties of yam, meat, and sweets prepared from sugarcane and ghee.
People take baths in holly rivers today.
