Democracy without nationalism is only a paper theory: Former King Gyanendra

Kathmandu, 10 January: King Gyanendra has remarked that traditional assumptions such as unity, indivisibility, social harmony and supremacy of sovereignty are becoming rare in Nepal.

The former King, extending greetings on the occasion of the 301st Prithivi Anniversary and National Unity Day on 27 Pous (11 January), has stated that since our politics are confused and engaged in terms of numbers and sizes rather than ideas and theoretical integrity, a review on this is a must.

The Shah dynasty has never failed to fulfill its responsibilities being dedicated to the nation, nationalism and citizens’ interests, he has said.

“We believe that democracy without nationalism is only a paper theory”, the King has said.

“A democracy, disguised in whatever name, if it cannot make the nation prosperous and provide service and security, is worthless”, the King has said.
