
Kathmandu, 9 January: The first session of the newly elected House of Representatives is going to take place this afternoon. Elderly MP Pashupati Shumsher Rana is going to chair the House sessions until the election of the speaker.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal is seeking a vote of confidence from the parliament session tomorrow (10 January).
Only after seeking a vote of confidence from the PM, the House will start the procedure to elect the speaker and then the deputy speaker.
According to the constitution, if a male candidate will be elected the speaker, the deputy speaker should be a female. Therefore, the election of the speaker and deputy speaker is not going to take place at once.
