Kathmandu, 20 December: The Parliament Secretariat is going to administer the oath of office to the newly elected members of parliament on 22 December. After the oath of office ceremony, the process to elect a new prime minister is going to take place, according to reports.
According to the citizenship certificate of the MPs, Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s senior leader Pashupati Shumsher Rana is the oldest member of parliament. Rana, after taking the oath of office from the President, is going to administer the oath of office to the newly elected MPs at the Parliament House at 1 pm on Thursday.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari, earlier to the MPs’ oath of office ceremony, has called the political parties to claim for the government by giving a one-week deadline. The President’s move has created a legal hurdle as the MPs cannot get recognition legally until they take the oath of office.
To avoid such a legal hurdle, the Parliament Secretariat has decided to administer the oath of office to the MPs before the deadline given by the President to form a new government.
However, due to the power-sharing dispute among the ruling partners, the process of formation of the new government can be delayed.
