Deuba under pressure to select three male candidates from PR list

Kathmandu, 10 December: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is facing difficulty in selecting three male candidates from the proportional representatives’ category.

Nepali Congress has won 32 seats, however, due to the constitutional provision of representation of 32 per cent females in the House of Representatives, the party must select 29 female candidates representing different clusters. The party can select only three male candidates from the list submitted to the Election Commission earlier.

Dr Prakashsharan Mahat, Gopalman Shrestha, Bimalendra Nidhi, Jeevan Pariyar, Yogendra Chaudhari, and Farmullha Mansur were the leaders included in the PR list with priority from the party with the assurance of their representation in the federal parliament from the Proportional Representative category. These leaders didn’t contest the FPTP election with strong assurance from party president Deuba. Now, out of these candidates, the party can select three names only.

By 4 pm today (10 December), the party should submit the names to the Election Commission.
