Kathmandu, 9 December: As fewer women have been elected from the FPTP election, the parties are under pressure to select more women in the Proportional Representation category reaching 33 per cent representation of women following the constitutional provision.
The Election Commission has asked to submit the names of the candidates by 4 pm on Saturday, 10 December.
UML, out of the 34 seats it has bagged from PR, can select 15 male candidates from different clusters. Nepali Congress, which has secured 32 seats in PR, can select only three male candidates. In the Maoist Center out of 14 seats, only two male candidates can be selected.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party, out of seven seats, can select only two male candidates. Janata Samajwadi Party, out of its five seats, can select one male candidate.
Out of the 13 seats won by Rastriya Swatantra Party, it can select 8 male candidates from the PR category.
Some prominent leaders included in the PR candidates’ list from the Nepali Congress, UML, Maoist Center and RPP may be ousted from the selection.
