
Kathmandu, 6 December: The government sending a diplomatic note expressing its opposition to the dam being unilaterally constructed by India on the Mahakali river.
Local residents protested after India unilaterally constructed a dam near Khalanga, the headquarters of Darchula district. The locals protested against the construction and closed the bridge crossing the Mahakali river.
According to reports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is sending a diplomatic note to India formally expressing its dissent after India built a structure on the river bank contrary to international norms. Even though the local authorities of the two sides promised not to build structures, contrary to the agreement, India has been violating it.
