Kathmandu, 27 November: Jhalnath Khanal, the leader of (CPN US), has been defeated in constituency-1. Khanal, who was lagging behind from the beginning, was defeated by CPN-UML candidate Mahesh Basnet by 2957 votes. However, the District Election Office has not released its final results. After falling behind, Khanal demanded a recounting but the Election Commission did not accept it. UML candidate Basnet garnered 24,304 votes while Khanal got 21,802 votes.
