Despite EC’s warning, violation of the election code of conduct rampant

By Our Reporter

Although the EC has warned of strong action against anyone violating the election code of conduct, party and independent candidates are found violating the code. They are found using more vehicles than they are allowed to. In some places, the candidates have fluttered party flags and election symbols in public places which is against the code.

The EC and local administration have been spending energy to remove such materials.

Similarly, the leaders of the ruling parties are found using helicopters to canvass.

Moreover, the candidates and their supporters are spreading misleading information about the candidates through social sites. Baseless news against particular candidates. Even though the EC has sought clarifications and penalised many candidates, violation of the code of conduct is going on unabated in many places.

Meanwhile, the EC too looked too smart while trying to implement the code, and it has dragged its many actions into controversy. Even the Press Council Nepal has drawn flak for its activities done in the name of implementing the code. Both organistaions were criticized when they were asked to remove the published news and cartoon that targeted the UML boss KP Oli.
