Kathmandu, 6 November: Dr Sekhar Koirala, leader of Nepali Congress, who is a candidate for the member of the House of Representatives from Constituency No. 6 of Morang, has started a door-to-door election campaign.
During the election campaign, Koirala met with the voters and addressed the election assembly in Biratnagar-11 on Sunday morning. During the meeting, the voters complained that they have not received citizenship for a long time as the Citizenship Bill has been stalled.
Koirala, replying to the voters, said that the Citizenship Bill was stalled because the President did not respect the Constitution.
Addressing the election meeting, he accused the President of violating the constitution by not rectifying the citizenship bill which was passed twice by the parliament.
He claimed that the coalition government that will be formed after the 20 November election will solve the citizenship issue.
Koirala said, “If I win, I will go to the House and help pass the citizenship bill.”
The residents of Biratnagar-11 complained that they were not able to get the services provided by the state to the people who were eligible to get a citizenship certificate by age but yet unable to get it due to the lack of a new citizenship law.
