Kathmandu, 24 October: Nepal Airlines Corporation’s narrow-body aircraft has been stranded in Mali in war-torn West Africa. It was on a charter flight carrying Nepali soldiers serving in the peacekeeping keeping mission there.
The plane that took off from Kathmandu last Wednesday and got stuck at the Gao Airport in Mali as one of its wheels punctured. Seventy-five Nepal Army soldiers are waiting for the flight. Twenty personnel including the crew members are staying in the military barracks.
Due to the negligence of the NAC, the crew and the returning soldiers have been stranded in Mali and it has incurred a loss of billions of rupees. The aircraft was flown without a spare wheel. Two wheels and spare parts weighing 600 kg cargo has been sent to Mali via Delhi on Saturday. However, the concerned authorities do not have a definite answer as to when cargo will reach Mali.
