Impeachment Committee submits its report with nine reasons to impeach Rana

Kathmandu, 18 September: The Impeachment Recommendation Committee  has submitted its report to the Speaker of erstwhile Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota categorically  mentioning  nine points that suffice to impeach suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana.

It has been pointed out that Rana went to consult with the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli regarding the formation of the bench and the verdict in the case of Ranjan Koirala was a grave blunder. The report has  mentioned Rana’s lack of efficiency and failure to fulfill his responsibilities as per the commitment made in the parliamentary hearing committee.

There are grounds and reasons for impeachment against Rana as he seriously violated the law by not inviting international bids for the construction of the Supreme Court building, breaching the code of conduct to be followed by the judge by not taking the case related to the constitutional appointment to the hearing process.

“Rana’s statement to committee that all the five judges involved in the case related to the dissolution of parliament should be impeached, it was confirmed that the judiciary consults with the executive instead of doing what it should do independently, and the lack of ability to carry out the work impartially was seen and it is enough to impeach him, ” one of the points reads. The committee has also recommended that his  suspension  be continued and impeached by the next parliament.
