Suspended CJ Rana interrogated

Kathmandu, 1 September: The Impeachment Recommendation Committee constituted by Parliament to investigate on suspended Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Cholendra S Rana interrogated him today also. The Committee had interrogated him on 31 August after registering impeachment against him six months ago.
Today, suspended CJ Rana, on the charge of being involved in corruption, setting and manipulating the court, replied that he was never involved in corruption. During his tenure, verdicts were given on major corruption cases and tax manipulation cases.
He also questioned the MPs saying that the MPs and ministers are also blamed for being involved in corruption.
He also objected to the representation of the very MPs who had registered an impeachment case against him and questioned the impartial judgement of the Committee.
On Wednesday, suspended CJ Rana had said that he had to face an impeachment case as the case against former prime ministers Madhav Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai for being involved in the Lalita Niwas land manipulation scam was under consideration of the Supreme Court. With the fear of being punished by the court, the impeachment case was filed against him, he had stated.
Also, he blamed some legal practitioners including the BAR and SC judges bargaining for personal gains.
The issues raised by the suspended CJ Rana are very serious, say political observers.
