President Bhandari rejects Citizenship Bill

Kathmandu, 14 August: The Citizenship Bill, which had been passed by both houses of Parliament and has reached Sheetal Niwas for authentication, is being returned to Parliament.  President Bidya Devi Bhandari is returning the bill without authenticating it by this evening. Based on the legal basis that any bill must be authenticated within 15 days, otherwise it will be returned to the parliament. Today is the 14th day that the bill was presented to the President for authentication.

On Saturday, President held series of meetings with the Prime Minister with Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Gobind Bandi and Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati at Sheetal Niwas and hinted that she would send the bill back to the Parliament for review, according to reports.
