US investing 3 billion dollars in Nepal to compete with China

Kathmandu, 30 July: World power America, which is competing with the second economic power and arch rival China, has prepared to cooperate deeply with the private sector along with the government of Nepal.

In addition to grant assistance and mutually beneficial partnership programmes with the government of Nepal, America has also started extensive partnership with Nepal’s private sector in promoting trade and commerce.

Eight months after the establishment of the first American Chamber of Commerce (AM ChAM) in Nepal, US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu said on Friday that the US will invest three billion dollars in  promotion of trade and commerce here.

During a meetiong with the Prime Minister on Friday, Lu promised to invest two to three billion US dollars in Nepal’s private sector for the promotion of trade and commerce, according to an official of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

Though the US has been partnering with Nepal’s private sector since long, it has decided to augment investment to counter increasing Chinese investment in trade and industry.
