Kathmandu, 5 July: Pressure is mounting on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to immediately remove Finance Minister Janardan Sharma, who has been involved in one controversial activity after another. Opposition parties, civic leaders as well as leaders and activists of the ruling party have been demanding the removal of Finance Minister Sharma. The Finance Minister and his controversial activities are also being criticized on social media. His dismissal is sought by every section of the society after he started ‘destroying’ the evidence instead of resigning on moral grounds.
On May 28 midnight, Minister Sharma allowed an unauthorized person to the Ministry of Finance and manipulated the tax rates in the budget that was readied for presenting at the House of the Representatives the following day. It is alleged that Raghunath Ghimire, a former employee of the revenue administration, was admitted to the ministry by Minister Sharma to manipulate the tax rate. Evidence related to that (CCTV footage) has been destroyed by the Ministry at the instructions of Sharma.
