Kathmandu, 17 June: A letter, written by the then Chief of Army Staff, Rajendra Chhetri, requesting that the Nepal Army participate in the US State Partnership Program (SPP) as per the government’s permission has been made public after the the Nepal Army refuted its plans to joint it. It is mentioned in the letter that the army has sent a letter to participate in the state partnership program of the National Guard as per the permission of the government.
The letter sent by the then Chief of Army Staff Chhetri to the US Ambassador to Nepal Alainna B. Tapliz on October 27, 2015, requesting her that Nepal Army was ready to participate in the National Guard’s partnership program has now become public. The letter was sent by the army with the permission of the government five weeks after the promulgation of the constitution.
