Political Commentary

Politics for what? Leaders who focused on the development of the nation and the prosperity of the citizens have established history. People in Singapore never forget Lee Kuan Yew who transformed a tiny country into a modern business hub. Singapore is an example that without any natural resources a country can be developed. First of all, Lee gave priority to producing the necessary manpower needed for the country. When he saw a lack of natural resources, he planned to develop Singapore as a business hub. He started to train citizens for being soft and polite, behaviours needed for doing business.
South Korea is another example of how political leadership can transform a poor country into a developed nation.
Accordingly, despite many challenges including a huge population, the Chinese leadership have been able to transform China into the largest economy in the globe.
First, the Chinese leaders developed the plan on how to make the economy prosperous, then they mobilized all the resources for infrastructural and economic development. Now, they have achieved success.
What are our leaderships doing?:
In Nepal, to become a successful leader, he should be a big liar, cheater and have the skill to practice corruption and commission.
The leaders are making deals with different countries to send our youths to foreign countries for dirty jobs. The main reason is that if the youths stay in the country, they become agitated from the behaviour of the political leaders and the leadership may face trouble. Therefore, to avoid such trouble, they have planned to export manpower.
Today, when the national economy is facing a liquidity crunch, negative balance of payments with a heavy decline in the foreign currency reserve, our political leaders are busy in conspiracy for capturing power.
UML is preparing for holding its national convention. Millions of rupees are being spent for holding the national convention in Chitwan. The party is constructing 42 huge gates, offering a standard menu with different varieties of meat to be served to the participants. The participants are staying in different tourist resorts in Sauraha, a tourist hub. UML is the main opposition party and the party is trying to exhibit its strength at a time when five political parties have developed an alliance to form the government by sidelining UML, the largest political party.
K.P. Sharma Oli, chair, UML wants to demonstrate his sole domination in the party. For this, he is ready to do everything. Businessmen and brokers are bearing the entire cost of the national convention although it is said that fund has been raised from every participant, which cannot be trusted.
Nepali Congress is also holding its national convention. About half a dozen leaders are in a race to capture the post of the party president. Accordingly, other leaders are in a race for capturing important positions in the party central committee. There were reports that to get the victory at the ward committee, one candidate had to spend ten million rupees. Let our readers guess, how much amount those candidates are sending to capture important positions in the party’s central body!
Forget about the Maoist Center, Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda is the permanent chair of the party and other posts are being filled through his nomination. Even though, on the issue of corruption and commission, the leaders are far ahead of leaders from other political parties.
Until now, very few leaders including Narayanman Bijukche and Chitrabahadur KC have been able to save their image against corruption and commission.
Politics is considered a social service rendered to the nation and the people. Contradicting such assumptions, our political leaders have adopted politics as a profession. The communist leaders receive salaries besides commission. Commission and corruption have emerged as strong institutions since we adopted the multiparty system. Look at the Supreme Court, every day, the lawyers are blaming the chief justice as a corrupt judge. Nevertheless, the lawyers themselves had performed the role of mediator on the buy and sale of justice from the court. It doesn’t mean that other judges and the Bar leaders are clean. They all are the traders of justice. In this loktantra, justice can be purchased, the present drama at the SC has confirmed.
