A British scholar who’s been a keen observer of China and the author of ‘When China Rules the World’, says it’s time for Hong Kong to stop copying the Western world’s models, and the city’s future lies northward with its motherland.
What about Myanmar? The Westerners are pushing innocent Myanmar people to the mouth of death!
When sweet turns sour
Immediately after the Supreme Court constitutional bench gave the verdict to restore the House of Representatives, Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda and Madhav Nepal, rivals of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli exchanged sweet and commended the Supreme Court for its impartial justice. The next day, they carried out a victory rally in Kathmandu demanding the immediate resignation of PM Oli on moral ground.
The happiness didn’t last long. On 7 March, another SC verdict turned sour for Dahal and Nepal. Spokesman of the Dahal-Nepal faction condemned the SC for its injustice.
Maybe this is said, sweet turns sour!
Unwanted birthday gifts!
The Supreme Court gave the verdict of reinstatement of the House of Representatives against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s act of dissolution of it on the day when he was celebrating his birthday. That was obviously an unwanted birthday gift for him.
Again, when Oli’s arch-rival Madhav Nepal was celebrating his birthday on 7 March, the SC gave another verdict which was an unwanted gift for him.
Of late, “revolutionary” communist leaders who have dedicated their entire life to the “poor and deprived people” and even reluctant in performing the last rituals of their parents, are found celebrating their birthday with fanfare!
This is the transformation we have witnessed in the communist rule in Nepal!
Who should get the credit on Melamchi?
The estimated five-year-long Melamchi Drinking Water Project took three decades in bringing water from the Melamchi River.
Today, party workers belonging to the NC and NCP are in a competition for giving credit to their leaders. Some have even tried to give credit to Bina Magar, daughter-in-law of Prachanda, who was the minister when an Italian contractor had demanded compensation of 500 million rupees to complete the project in three months, was compelled to quit the project. After the Italian company quit the project, the government had to face additional 250 million rupees to complete the project.
In fact, the Melamchi Project became a milking cow for every new minister for three decades.
If the credit of the project goes, it is King Birendra who, after his coronation in 1975, had dreamed about the project!
Quotes of the Week:
The Civil Service lacks visionary leadership. The Civil service structure was sketched by prime minister Tanka Prasad Acharya and King Mahendra had strengthened it in 1956. Along with the introduction of the multiparty system, it has been destroyed.

India should not try to be a ruler of Nepal. Don’t think Nepali people will accept a foreign master. Though, l know India has destroyed some of the pillars of our nationhood but remember Nepal will stage a strong comeback. Better respect Nepal’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Who does what in Nepal?
Foreigners rule the nation;
The court does politics;
The Army does business;
Brokers do civil servicemen’s transfer and promotion;
Politicians just do brokering for the brokers!

During the King’s rule, only those having brain were eligible to become doctor and engineer, today, those having money occupy such professions. This could be the educational revolution!
