Kathmandu, 15 November: Now, it seems, the Nepal Communist leaders, especially PM and party chairman KP Sharma Oli and another chairman Pushpakamal Dahal have reached to the crucial point from where it is impossible to return. They are even not showing passions to wait for the upcoming national convention of the party scheduled for April next year.
In the last Secretariat meeting, Prachanda presented a political document pointing out Oli’s mistakes and asked Oli for self-criticism and not repeating the past mistakes. The next day, the Oli faction has asked Prachanda to take back his document presented at the Secretariat meeting, otherwise, he warned him to wait for an unfortunate decision.
Immediately after the Secretariat meeting, Oli had held an informal meeting with dissident leaders Madhav Nepal, JN Khanal, Bamdev Gautam in a group. Oli had questioned to them that what could be their intention!
In reply, they had asked Oli to correct himself, otherwise, be ready to get punished.
On the Laxmipooja day, 14 November, Oli called on President Bidya Bhandari and discussed the latest situation in the party.
The situation in the party is that Prachanda and party’s senior leader Madhav Nepal have developed an alliance by incorporating JN Khanal and Bamdev Gautam. The Oli faction is isolated in the party. Oli’s opponent group plans to finish the Oli group. This group believes that it will not make any difference even if Oli is ousted from the party.
The equation at the party:
The party equation is that there is 30 per cent representation of the Oli camp, 30 per cent of the Madhav Nepal camp and 40 per cent of the Prachanda camp. If the party is split and Oli camp will be ousted, the Prachanda camp will become strong with existing 40 per cent representation of his team in the three organs of the party – Secretariat, Standing Committee and Central Committee. This means the former UML leaders should be ready to accept Prachanda’s rule until the national convention of the party. So far, in the national convention, Nepal will have a stronghold and he can easily defeat Prachanda in the election of the party chairman. This indicates that Prachanda’s desire to become the party chairman is not going to be fulfilled even after Oli’s ousting.
