Officer issuing citizenship to Indian national remanded to custody

Kathmandu, 7 July : Former administrative officer in Jhapa, Suresh Acharya, has been remanded to custody in accusation of his involvement in conferring Nepali citizenship to an Indian national based on fake documents.

Jhapa District Court decided to send Acharya in custody for the further investigation. He is now kept in Jhapa jail. When he was administrative officer at District Administration Office in Jhapa five years back, he had conferred the Nepali citizenship on an Indian national Mustapha Alam on November 26, 2015.

A sleuth mobilized by the District Police Office of Jhapa had arrested Acharya from Gothatar, Kathmandu, three days back while he was hiding from the police. Acharya had been absconding after the revelation that he conferred the citizenship certificate on foreigner based on fake documents.
