Kathmandu, 24 October: The Indian government, with a grant assistance of Re 240 million, had constructed a Dharamshala at Gaushala. The Dharamshala has been leased by the Pashupati Area Development Trust to a business house.
The Dharamshala in the Trust premises is going to be run as a three star hotel.
Dharamshala was constructed with the purpose of providing lodging facility at nominal price to those Hindu pilgrimages. However, after leasing the Dharamshala to a business house, pilgrimages cannot stay there at almost free of cost. They have to pay the price of a three star hotel while staying there, reports Naya Patrika daily.
The Dharmashala, constructed by India on grant, was handed over to Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when Modi was in Kathmandu to attend the BIMSTEC Summit.
Within a year, the trust has handed over the Dharamshala to the Hotel Aananda of the Battas Group on lease for 15 years.
The Dharamshala constructed on 19 ropanis of land was equipped with 388 rooms with attached bathroom. Now, there will be only 80 luxury rooms. The charge of such luxury rooms will be minimum 2900 rupees per night.
If the Trust had provided 388 rooms at the price of one thousand rupees per night, it could receive 380 thousand rupees. In a month, it could receive 11 million 640 thousand rupees and in a year, 139 million 680 thousand rupees could be collected.
However, the Trust has leased the Dharamshala just at 10 million 541 thousand 611 rupees per year.
