The massive inundation in the Tarai last week was due to the embankment built by India along the Nepal-India border. When India built the embankments by violating the international laws, the natural flow of water was blocked in Nepal, which resulted in the inundation in the Terai from Saptari to Parsa. India also built roads in the border and no-man’s land by raising the ground, which also work as embankment or dam.
Everyone knows the Indian embankment and the roads led to the inundation. But no political party and their leaders dared to express views against the India-built embankment. Even the main opposition Nepali Congress kept mum while the government led by Oli did not utter a word against them. The terai people were affected the most in the inundation, but no Tarai-based party raised the issues and spoke in favour of the flood victims.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli who reached the power cashing in on his nationalist image also made no remark on the India-built embankment.
