Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli received the national ID card with biometric information issued by the Department of National Identity Card and Civil Registration under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Dipak Kafle, director general at the department under the Ministry of Home Affairs, handed over the national ID card to the Prime Minister amidst a function organised at Prime Minister’s Official Residence in Baluwatar Tuesday morning.
Kafle also handed over the ID card to Prime Minister’s Spouse Radhika Shakya.
The department had provided the ID card to Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun on Monday.
The department is continuing the process of distributing the National ID cards to civil servants of Singha Durbar, high profile dignitaries of the state and the residents of Panchthar district as per the plan included in the policy and programmes of the current fiscal year.
As per the plan, we have distributed around 100,000 National ID cards so far.
About 92,000 residents from Panchthar and 8,000 civil servants of Singha Durbar and dignitaries had received such ID cards so far, however, the cards have not come into use in lack of required technology in government offices.
