It seems the Melamchi Water Supply Project will never conclude but it will be continuing to be a milking cow for corrupt ministers and officials.
With the Italian company fleeing Nepal, the fate of the much-talked about project has become uncertain. It is stated that then secretary Gajendra Kumar Thakur of the Water Supply Ministry compelled the Italian company to abandon the project after he asked Rs 50 million from it.
There are others who argued that the project would not complete in the leadership of Minister Bina Magar.
“Note this, this project will not complete until Minister Magar leads the ministry,” said a contractor in the condition of anonymity.
It has already been seven months since the Italian company left the project, but the government has not yet resumed the construction work. Almost 97 per cent work on the project was said to have completed. But it is likely to take about two years to complete the remaining 3 per cent work.
The Ministry is now planning to pay addition Rs. 3 billion to complete the 3 per cent work.
