Kathmandu, 20 June: Tribhuvan University better known by the acronym TU,- the premier institute of higher studies and a center for academic excellence once has now transformed into a place of corruption and intellectual bankruptcy.
According to Naya Patrika daily, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested a student and staffer for their involvement in a ‘gold medal trade’ scam.
Surendra Koirala, a student of MA in Economics, was arrested for bribing Ramu Karmacharya of Confidential Section of Office of the Controller of Examination, Balkhu for tampering with the score and making him the gold medalist.
The anti-graft body has arrested both Karmacharya and Koirala and investigating the case. According to the deal, Koirala has assured Karmacharya of Rs 500,000 as a kickback.
In yet another development, assistance Dean of faculty of Science and Technology Shambhu Prasad Patel has been arrested red-handed. He was nabbed by the CIAA team while collecting bribe amount from an institution that runs science and technology programs. Patel had taken bribe for quick renewal of licence of operation, according to CIAA news release.
