By Our Reporter
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli attended the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Damodar Modi on Thursday.
He attended the lengthy ceremony held on the premises of the Rastrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, with other leaders of BIMSTEC as Modi invited the heads of states or governments of the tiny regional body ignoring the representatives of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), hinting that Modi does want to see the growth of SAARC only because Pakistan is one of its members.
The reelection of Modi with absolute majority in India has put the fate of SAARC at risk. The regional body has not been able to hold its summit for the last four years due to growing tension between India and Pakistan.
Appointment of S Jaishanakr to the post of Foreign Minister has also shocked the Nepalis as he was the key man to impose blockade against Nepal in the aftermath of 2015 earthquake for the Nepali leaders did not abide by his instruction to postpone of the promulgation of the constitution in September the same year.
During his stay in New Delhi, Prime Minister Oli held a meeting with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
During the meeting, the two Prime Ministers were said to have exchanged views on maintaining the momentum generated in the recent past and expressed commitment to taking bilateral relationship to a new height.
Both Prime Ministers expressed happiness over the progress made in Nepal-India relations under their respective leadership.
However, upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, PM Oli did not make any comment about his Delhi trip and reelection of Modi in India.
