The KMC demolished the sheds illegally built in Khulla Manch in the public pressure.
The demolition was carried out in the presence of KMC Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya and Chief District Officer (CDO) Ram Prasad Acharya on Saturday.
A contractor company had erected the illegal structure and had rented them. But he had not paid any tax to KMC despite earning more than Rs. million a year.
However, the bulldozing affected the poor businessmen who had taken the sheds in lease paying a hefty amount.
While bulldozing the illegal structures of Khulla Manch, Mayor Shakya heard the complaints of the locals and the poor shopkeepers.
When the shop owners complained the Mayor that they were not given pre-notice to clear their shops, Mayor Shakya directed the City Police Division to make arrangements of the vehicles so that they can move the stuffs of shops.
“No one can deny the notion of preserving public property,” said Mayor responding to the complaints of the locals.
Now, there is only public toilet, a ticket counter and canteen operated inside the Khulla Manch. These structures were mentioned in the agreement made with the Jaleshwor Swochchhanda Bikoi Builder Pvt. Ltd construction company while shifting the bus park in Khulla Manch temporarily.
