Linguist Pokharel no more

Noted linguist and litterateur Professor Bal Krishna Pokharel died Sunday. He was 86.
Pokharel, who was suffering brain hemorrhage from January 20, 2019, breathed his last in Biratanagar at 1:30 in the afternoon.
Pokharel was cremated at Paropakar Crematorium in Biratnagar on Sunday. Pokharel was born to Subba Sarada Pokharel and Krishna Chhayandevi on Shrawan 30, 1990 B.S, in Chisapanigadhi of Makwanpur district.
Pokharel had penned over 115 different books, including story, poem, novel, dictionary, and epics.
Pokharel was one of the leading personalities in initiating Jharrobadi movement that began from Banaras (India), a linguistic purism for safeguarding Nepali language from unwanted foreign influence.
Nepal Academy paid a tribute to late Pokharel by issuing a condolence message.
Pokharel, who had earned an MA in comparative linguistics from Calcutta University, was teaching at Tribhuvan University since 2019 B.S.
