Government to recall ambassadors assigned by previous government, assigns new ambassadors

Kathmandu, 16 November: The government has started to recall ambassadors appointed by the previous government. Nepali ambassador to Israel, Niranjan Thapa has been recalled. Anjan Shakya has been nominated to the post of the ambassador to Israel, reports Annapurna Post daily.

Thapa was nominated as the ambassador by the government led by Pushpakamal Dahal, whereas, the government led by Sher Bahadur Deuba had appointed Thapa as the ambassador.

The cabinet meeting held on 13 November has recommended Anjan Shakya as the ambassador to Israel. She is known as a singer and news anchor.

She is wife of province parliament of the No 3 province elected from Kathmandu electoral constituency No 9, Ajayakranti Shakya.

Three years ago, Anjan Shakya was appointed as the deputy chief of the Foreign Affairs Study Academy.

The government has extended the tenure of Deepak Dhital, ambassador to Switzerland. Accordingly, the government has recalled Amrit Rai, ambassador to South Africa before completing his tenure.

Sources say that the government is planning to promote Shankar Bairagi to the post of the chief secretary and assign Rai as the acting secretary in the foreign ministry.
