Balen: No mercy for those humiliating, hurting flood victims

Kathmandu, Sept 6: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has warned that the government will take strict action against those who humiliate or make insensitive comments about people affected by the Bhotekoshi flood, calling such people criminals.

In a social media post on Saturday, Shah provided an update on the search, rescue and relief efforts following the flood and urged people not to add to the suffering of victims during such a sensitive time.

He said the anger of people who have lost loved ones and are enduring immense pain should be understood as natural. For those who have lost everything in an instant, he said, anger is often a way of expressing much deeper suffering.

Shah said the government remains committed to listening to and addressing public anger with restraint.

He also urged flood victims to remain strong and trust the government as it responds to the disaster.

Describing citizens as the foundation and guides of the country, Shah asked them to treat the government as a member of their own family and provide advice and guidance when needed during the crisis.
