Chitwan, Sept 6: Authorities are continuing efforts to manage, identify and collect DNA samples from bodies recovered along the Trishuli and Narayani riverbanks in Chitwan following the Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa.
According to DSP Chandrabhushan Yadav of the District Police Office, 362 bodies have so far been recovered in Chitwan. Of these, 333 have been managed, while 14 bodies were identified and handed over to their families.
DNA sample collection for scientific identification began on September 1. Yadav said samples had been collected from 68 relatives of people reported missing as of September 5.
On September 1, samples were collected from seven men. On September 2, samples were collected from 26 people, including two women, 22 men and two Indian men.
On September 3, samples were collected from 22 people: four women, 14 men, one boy and three Indian men.
Similarly, samples were collected from seven people on September 4, including one woman, four men, one boy and one Indian man. On September 5, samples were collected from six people: two women, one man and three boys.
DSP Yadav said search operations, DNA testing of relatives for identification, collection of information about missing people and other coordination efforts are continuing.
