350 people trapped inside Upper Trishuli hydropower tunnel rescued

August 28, Kathmandu: The Nepali Army has rescued 350 people trapped in a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli Hydropower Project.

The incident had sparked widespread concern after reports emerged that the workers and others were trapped inside the tunnel following the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa.

The Prime Minister’s secretariat said the army successfully carried out the challenging rescue operation and brought the 350 people to safety.

The Army estimates that more than 100 people are still trapped inside the tunnel. Rescue efforts to evacuate them are continuing.
