Kathmandu, May 23: Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have caused extensive damage in wards 1 and 2 of Yangwarak Rural Municipality in Panchthar district. Flooding in the Dobhane Stream, the Tamor River, and areas surrounding the Mid-Hill Highway damaged roads, bridges, culverts, and houses belonging to local residents.
The under-construction Limbuni motorable bridge over the Tamor River has been swept away by the flood, while a hydropower project located on the Dobhane Stream has also reportedly suffered damage. Likewise, landslides in the Lamwakhola Dhad area between Yangwarak-3 and 7 swept away two houses. Police said the affected families have been relocated to safer areas.
Landslides have also obstructed the Chyangthapu–Tharpu road section. Authorities stated that a complete assessment of the damage is still pending due to continuous rainfall and disrupted communication links.
