Two killed, five injured in windstorm in Udaypur

Udaypur, March 16: A windstorm on Sunday evening killed two people and injured five others in Katari, Udaypur.

The deceased have been identified as Minamaya Tamang of Katari Municipality–8, Thaliyatar, and 64-year-old Birendra Chaudhary of Katari Municipality–5.

According to the Area Police Office, Katari, Chaudhary died after a dry sal tree fell onto a snack shop made of tin sheets and wood near the Radha Krishna Temple in Katari–5 during the storm accompanied by rain.

Five others were injured in the same incident after being trapped under the fallen tree. The injured include four-year-old Binisha Chaudhary, 27-year-old Yuvraj Karki of Ahaledanda, Katari–5, 46-year-old Leela Bahadur Danuwar of Balaha, Katari–5, 46-year-old Prem Chandra Danuwar of the same area, and 16-year-old Asmita Pariyar of Baseri, Katari–12. They are receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Katari.

Police said that four-year-old Binisha Chaudhary was rescued after about 40 minutes with the help of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and residents.

In a separate incident, Minamaya Tamang of Katari Municipality–8 was seriously injured when a tree branch broken by strong winds struck her while she was moving goats at home. She was taken to the Provincial Hospital in Katari, where doctors declared her dead at 9:10 pm.

Among the injured, 46-year-old Leela Bahadur Danuwar, who sustained a serious head injury, has been referred to Biratnagar for further treatment, police said.
