Kathmandu, June 3: The maintenance works of the Kanti Highway linking the Kathmandu Valley with Hetauda, the headquarters of the Bagmati Province, have been completed and the road has been opened for transportation from today.
The road has been partially closed since March 14.
This is the shortest highway linking Satdobato in the Lalitpur district to Buddhachowk in Hetauda. The total distance of the road is 92 km only.
The construction of the highway was started 67 years ago and King Mahendra had come to Kathmandu from Hetauda by driving a jeep by himself after opening of the track. However, due to the Indian protest showing security reasons, the Nepal government was unable to complete the road project.
The previous governments were unable to give priority to this highway.
