I won’t tolerate anarchy within RSP: Lamichhane

Kathmandu, Nov 7: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has said his party will not obstruct the government’s functioning but will remain vigilant to ensure the rule of law and end irregularities in the country.

Addressing a programme in Chitwan, Lamichhane clarified that there was no conflict between the party organisation and the government. He urged party members to maintain discipline and uphold a civilised political culture. He stressed that both the party and the government must put public service at the centre of their work.

He cautioned against making unsubstantiated remarks about state institutions such as the judiciary and police in public spaces, saying such comments could undermine their morale. He also expressed concern over the growing influence of money and financial resources within the party.

Warning that allowing the party to be run in the interests of an individual or a particular group could lead to its capture, Lamichhane urged members to remain alert to such tendencies. He also condemned the use of obscene and abusive language against people expressing differing views on social media.

Meanwhile, Lamichhane remarked that a weak democracy may allow people to make grand statements but cannot deliver effective results. He said no one should weaken the key pillars of democracy through their words, actions or decisions.

Emphasising the need to allow state institutions to function independently, he said the police and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) must be further strengthened. A strong CIB, he said, would be able to bring even people holding positions of power and authority within the scope of investigation.

He also said investigations into corruption cases must be evidence-based and robust enough to prevent accused individuals from securing release from court due to weak investigations.
