Kathmandu, Oct 30: Rain is continuing in several parts of the country, including Kathmandu.
The rainfall is being caused by the partial influence of westerly winds and Cyclone Arnab, which developed over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, most parts of the country will remain cloudy throughout the day. Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, along with snowfall in higher elevations.
Most Himalayan areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as many other areas, are also likely to receive moderate rainfall and snowfall with thunderstorms and lightning.
Some parts of the Tarai districts in Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces may experience strong winds.
A few places in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, along with one or two locations in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, are likely to receive heavy rainfall or snowfall.
The department has forecast cloudy conditions across most parts of the country tonight, with moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in many areas. Heavy rainfall or snowfall is also likely in a few places.
Meteorologist Binod Pokhrel said light rain had continued at a fairly uniform rate overnight across almost all areas from Koshi to Bagmati provinces. Rainfall also began in eastern parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces after midnight.
“Similar rainfall is expected throughout the day today. But from the afternoon or evening, heavy rainfall is likely across the eastern half of Nepal,” Pokhrel said. “People need to remain particularly alert as intense rainfall could occur at night.”
