Kathmandu, October 30: The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that the country is currently experiencing a partial influence of westerly winds, as well as the effects of Cyclone ‘Arnab’, which developed over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday.
As an impact of the cyclone, the Kathmandu Valley has been experiencing continuous rainfall since Thursday evening.
Currently, skies are generally cloudy across the country. Light rainfall is occurring in the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, as well as in a few places in Madhesh Province.
The Division has forecast moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in most parts of the country until Saturday, November 1. It has warned that heavy rainfall is likely in a few places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with very heavy rainfall or snowfall possible at one or two locations. There is also a risk of heavy snowfall, snowstorms and avalanches in the high-hill and Himalayan regions.
The Division has urged people to exercise extreme caution and advised tourists not to travel to high Himalayan areas. Those already there have been requested to remain in safe locations during this period.
The Division has further cautioned that temperatures may drop, landslides could occur in vulnerable areas and along roadsides, and daily life could be disrupted, including road and air transportation. It has therefore urged the general public and all concerned agencies to take necessary precautions and make adequate preparations.
