Trump ready to meet Putin and Xi in China

Washington, Oct 20: President Donald Trump has said he is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in China next month, suggesting that the talks could cover nuclear disarmament and the war in Ukraine.

Trump criticised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying it was time for someone else to negotiate on Ukraine’s behalf. His remarks have exposed further differences between Washington and Kyiv.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said a possible trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in China had been discussed, but no concrete agreement had been reached.

The summit is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen on November 18 and 19, with all three countries participating. China’s Foreign Ministry said it had no information about a possible meeting.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha warned that a meeting without Kyiv’s participation would encourage Putin to continue the war. Peskov also said Ukrainian representatives would need to participate in any final peace agreement.

Meanwhile, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine. Russian drone strikes in the Kharkiv region on Monday killed six people, including children, according to officials.

Ukraine has also accused the United States of withholding key intelligence information.
